WVU Free Software Advocacy Group

The WVU Free Software Advocacy Group (FSAG) is in it's infancy and we need your help! Currently we're in the process of becoming a registered student organization at West Virginia University http://www.wvu.edu but that won't stop us from progressing as a new team. We need people from all branches of WVU and Morgantown, WV. We need blank CDs -- even cooler would be CD labels we can use to tie a name to our work so people know who is advocating.

FSAG was started with the ideals of creating a community and building awareness around free software, this isn't limited to free as in speech software, but also software which is free as in beer that doesn't meet the free speech requirement. We are growing out of the WVU Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering http://csee.wvu.edu because it is the logical hub of all things software related, however our advocacy doesn't end there. For example, as a part of the College of Engineering and Mineral resources we can extend our outreach efforts by providing Octave to engineers working on MATLAB projects who don't have the money required for student licenses.

And that's just a start! As a long term goal we're pushing for the inclusion of a free Office Suite installed in all campus Computing Facilities. To work in parallel with that goal we will be distribution copies of Open Office around the campus to anyone who wants a copy to try.
